Pentre Bach

An Ode to Pentre Bach

We travelled from afar
10 Scousers and 4 Aussies
Crammed inside 4 cars
We’ve seen the sights
And swam the lakes
We’ve done some miles
But it’s what it takes
We’ve visited Barmouth by train and by ferry
And to the pub until we’re merry
To Fairbourne and Dolgellau for some time
It’s hard to find words for these places that rhyme
A great time has been had by all
Young and old all playing ball
On tranquil seas we went to fish
For a more peaceful time you couldn’t wish
The fish were very few
It nearly ruined our barbeque
No worries, cares and above all, frets
With those you love watching beautiful sunsets
We all agree we love your house
But it’s time to go back to where they all talk scouse!
The Michaels Family

Sixteen of us descended on Pentre Bach and were given a warm welcome by Mike and Wilma who showed us round the beautiful properties. We had booked the Main House and Y Popty which are inter-connected and ideal for our purposes. We had an idea from the Website what to expect, but nothing prepared us for the spaciousness of the place and the attention to detail in the decor, furnishings, ornaments and pictures etc. There was more than enough equipment in the kitchen, the huge dining room had a grand table sitting under a lovely chandelier, the spacious bright and comfortable lounge had dozens of games and numerous books.
The bedrooms were roomy and bright with lovely views and the beds were very comfy. Everywhere was clean and tidy, Mike and Wilma told us everything we needed to know and showed us how everything worked, and when they weren't around, Gerald the caretaker was about to answer any queries and give us advice on the area.
As if the house wasn't perfect enough, the area around is breathtakingly beautiful. Llwyngwril is a pretty little village with a station where you can catch the train to Fairbourne, Barmouth or anywhere along the coast as far as Pwllheli, or Towyn and Aberdovey in the other direction.
We were lucky in that we had a week of perfect weather, but even in bad weather the house is big enough to chill out in, read a book, play some board games or even play hide and seek. If you are lucky enough to have good weather, the sun sets are amazing.
I can't fault anything about Pentre Bach or the area and would go back again anytime and recommend it to anyone.

Have stayed here four times now and simply cannot fault it. Excellent accommodation, very clean and well presented. Kitchen extremely well stocked with everything you need and books and games everywhere for those wet afternoons. The main house has a grand yet homely feel with spectacular sea views from the lounge and dining room. You will find yourself on most evenings sitting on the bay window seats and watching the sun set over another restful day, ahh bliss!
Mike and Wilma (the owners) are very welcoming and supporting yet leave you to your own devices.
With plenty of space and en-suites to most rooms, plus the added bonus that they allow dogs, Pentre Bach is the ideal choice for large families or groups of friends that want to spend quality time in the gorgeous Snowdonia National Park.

Ellam Family, Cheshire, February 2011

We all had a fantastic time at Pentre Bach. Everything was perfect - the house, the garden, the views and the easy access to wonderful walks and beaches.
We loved the facilities in the house especially the big dining room in which we entertained 22 people for Pats 80th birthday!
Me, I really miss the big bath tub in which I spent a lot of time relaxing and reading!
Pentre Bach was even easy to get to (just 4.5 hours from King's Lynn in Norfolk!).
Next time we are going to take a train ride from the local station (I bet there are fantastic views to be enjoyed along the coast!).
It's hard to imagine the place in summer because it was so beautiful and quiet in January. However, we are willing to try and have resolved to make it back when it's warm and sunny!

Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend.
We arrived on a dark and very cold Friday night after a long journey and were delighted to be greeted by a very Christmassy atmosphere and a roaring log fire. We came for our dad’s 60th birthday and I can’t think of a more perfect venue for a family get together. We’re already planning a return in the New Year. Thanks again.
The McCreath Party, December 2010

What a fantastic place! From the views to the sea, to the size of the house, the whole place is brilliant! Easily fits a large party of people. Will definitely come back!
The Plumridge Party, September 2010

The views are definitely the best of any of the houses we’ve stayed in.
The Cooke Family, August 2010

Thank you for the warm welcome to the house on our arrival. The house is very warm, cosy and inviting. It is homely enough, comfortable enough to make the weary traveller from afar feel as though they are at a home away from home.
Our stay was very comfortable, the scenery and landscapes in the surrounding area is absolutely mindblowing. It was a real treat to be able to sit outside in the beautiful, peaceful, serene garden watching the sun go down over the sea.
We’ll definitely be back.
The Rawal Family , August 2010

Diane’s 50th Bash, June 2010

Thank you both for a wonderful week. The whole family, from 3 year-olds through to 83 year-olds absolutely loved it! Huge rooms, lovely log fires, stunning views and so peaceful. Great to have wi-fi. Friendly local pub. Gerald was on hand many mornings with really helpful advice on the nearby attractions. Lots of activities and places to see to keep everybody amused. It was just what we needed. We’ve already booked for next year!
The Starkey Family, London, May 2010

Fantastic weekend, house and facilities excellent, lovely touch welcoming us on our arrival with lovely flowers. All our party of 13 (grandparents and great grandma of 95), sons, daughters and grandchildren all had a wonderful time.
Will definitely recommend the house to our friends.

December 2010

We have been blessed with glorious weather over the 6 days we have spent here, making this a fantastic break. The view from the conservatory relaxes the mind and the peace and quiet is so welcome compared to the city.
The Halls & Ella the dog, September 2010

‘The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim his handiwork.’ Psalm 19v1
We have seen much evidence of this and are thankful for all that we have enjoyed in this lovely spot.
The Smith Family, August 2010

We have had a lovely restful holiday. We love the area and the fantastic views from the cottage. Our dog loves the field and the beaches. We would love to return. Many thanks.

Y Popty

Enjoyed our short break in this lovely cottage. Everything kept in first class condition. Location is spot on, plenty to see and do. Thanks for all your hospitality. Will definitely be back.
T & G Griffiths, September 2010

We appreciated the warm welcome and helpful ideas. The cottage was clean and comfy.  We had lots of exhilarating walks and enjoyed the sunsets from the patio. Will definitely come again.
The Sarson Family, August 2010

We have had a lovely week. The cottage is cosy and the weather has been fantastic. Days out to Aberdovey, CAT and Barmouth were all great. The children have adored the ponies and spent every spare minute on the swings. We all feel fully relaxed.
The Fishers, April 2010

After reading reviews, the cottage has certainly lived up to expectations. We have had a fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage. As recommended we went to Cregennan Lakes which were stunning, although brace yourselves for the road up to them! The walk to the beach here is lovely. The highlight of our trip was a visit to Aberdovey. It’s a shame we have to leave.
Charlotte and family from Salisbury, April 2010

Y Llaethdy

A lovely week in a very peaceful setting. Have enjoyed our days out with pretty good weather, all in all, and have particularly enjoyed sitting watching the lovely sunsets every night with a glass of wine.
The Jenners, August 2010

You’ve got a wonderful place here- we hate to leave Y Llaethdy (which we can’t pronounce). It was a real pleasure to stay here and we’ll be back. If only California wasn’t so far away!
B.H., August 2010

A perfect and magical setting to wake up to all the wildlife.
Helen and John, June 2010

We’ve enjoyed watching the swifts swooping low over the garden and field in the sunshine, and the bats after dark. The many pots of flowers are looking beautiful. Hope to be back again soon.
Stella, Mick & Jess the dog, June 2010

Spent a few days in this adorable cottage- we didn’t want for anything- even the weather’s been kind. We especially loved the walk on the beach from Aberdovey to Tywyn with Buzzy, our lovely retired greyhound.
